Who's here

How can we help?

Lotta is The Hangout Community Manager and responsible for developing the support services for Hangout residents. Regular Catch up sessions with Lotta are held to make sure residents are on track, heading towards their goals and that they are receiving enough support to rock and roll!

Hangout Meetups

So that all residents can stay up to date with each other's start-ups and start-downs we have a monthly session to deal with just that! The monthly Hangout Meetup is where residents get the chance to share their tips/tricks (check out @TheHangoutLDN) and solve any problems together with their felow residents. This session is kicked of with a different topic or exercise each month to ensure that we learn and grow together.

Friday Pitching

For our monthly Friday Pitches our Hanogut residents get a chance to practice and perfect their pitches and get feedback from fellow residents as well as our VIP guests.

Hangout Startup Mentoring

Upon joining the space each Hangout startup is paired with an expert mentor to work towards their set goals, be that raising investment, creating a Crowdfunding campaign, bootstrapping, growing organically... You name it, our mentors can help to solve it!

In addition we also organise the occasional speed mentoring session to shake up our startups and challenge their thinking!

Who can apply?

City students and graduates can apply to use the space to develop their ventures for up to 12 months. If you are launching or have recently launched your venture and want the support of a startup community, this could be your chance! The main purpose of The Hangout is to help students and graduates of City University London in the early stages of development - it is not suitable incubation space for established commercial ventures. If you are selected to join the space we will work with you to establish your business goals and coach you through achieving these objectives. 12 months isn’t that long and we want to make sure that you make the most of your time as residents!

And how does it work?

Step 1 – Online Application
The Hangout has two intakes per year, Summer and Winter. The Application Deadline for the Summer intake has passed and the winter intake will open in December 2016. Applicants will be asked to submit an application form alongside a 2 minute video pitch.

Step 2 – 5 minute pitch
The Startups that make it through the first selection will be invited to deliver a 5 minute pitch to our judging panel. Pitching will take place inn January 2017 (dates TBC), if you submit an application please make sure you are available for the pitching.

The applicants that successfully make it through the pitching round will be invited for an induction session, after which you will become a fully fledged Hangout resident!.

So, if you have started developing your idea, and are looking for a space to launch and grow, we would love to meet you.  If you are interested in joining The Hangout ping us an email and we will show you around the space!

Do you want to get involved?

We are always looking for amazing people to add to our Startup-friend-circle. If you think you have any superpowers, skills or expertise that our residents might benefit from, please get in touch and tell us what they are!

Potential opportunities with us:

Hangout Startup Mentors

For each cohort we pair our new Startups with a mentor for a period of 9 months to help them work towards their residency goals. If you have an hour or two to spare every month and would like to spend that time supporting one of our passionate Startups please tell us more about your experience here.

We provide training for all of our mentors.

Occasional support

For those of you that have a little less time to spare but would still like to get involved we organise regular sessions on various topics for our residents. If you are interested in holding a one-hour workshop, watching pitches and providing feedback or taking part in a speed mentoring session please email us and come in for a chat!
